Meet Councilman Chris Ward
Updated: Sep 6, 2019
Although better known for being the council district where the “crown jewel” of San Diego’s arts and culture scene is located, Councilman Chris Ward wants everyone to know that there are additional arts and culture gems that surround Balboa Park within Council District 3. To spread the word, Councilman Ward relies heavily on what his constituents in the arts and culture community tell him he needs to see and hear.
By building a relationship with these constituents, Councilman Ward is able to support the arts and culture community by attending events like the Festival of the Arts in North Park which not only benefits the local art community but also benefits the local business community as well. Attending events like these is one of Councilman Ward’s favorite parts about being a councilman because it’s a fun way to support the creative individuals that are working together to build a community through art, music, crafts, foods and beverages!
“The local business community has been very supportive of the local arts” Ward says, and if one were to look at the size of the murals on the walls of local businesses in his district you would definitely agree!
In 2018 Councilman Ward helped unveil a large mural in Mission Hills which was commissioned by local company Canale Communications and painted by local muralist Drew Fehlman. The mural titled You are Gold was meant to express the importance of diversity in San Diego and the vitality it brings to the local community. Councilman Ward believes strongly in supporting this diversity throughout the arts and culture community of San Diego which is why he looks forward to doing his part by attending all the amazing arts and culture events Council District 3 has to offer!
